#11 ‘Marchmont Nature’

  • When I was immersed in the glorious fields of the Marchmont estate, it gave me time to reflect and think about what it is that’s really important. We all live in different places ... how amazing to think about that ... and I hope that you are able to find some green space where you can brush with nature in some shape or form. A city park, the coast, a yard garden, rolling fields ...
  •
  • For some it’s easier than others getting out into the trees, the weather on your face, breathing in the autumnal perfume, kicking leaves.
  •

  • There’s the big picture - the landscape, the skies, clouds and the rolling lands, then there’s the woodland, the hedgerows and the patches of moss or lichen on a wall or tree bark. Wherever you are, if there’s chance, pause and look more closely. See the intense colours, feel the textures, study the complex structure of tiny things. What’s it made of? Anyone live here? ... what creatures depend on this small space - who’s universe is this place? How unadulterated and natural it is ... full of creative energy metamorphosing and adapting to its natural environment... flourishing. Charismatic, authentic, natural.

  • Whatever is going on in this crazy time, I walk everyday. I am addicted to the outdoors and this next project is all about our connection with nature. Being inspired and nurtured by Mother Nature.
  •
  • Saluting her, humbled by our natural surroundings, guarding her with our lives, respecting the earth. I am beginning to feel like one of Mother Natures foot soldiers.... preparing for some kind of battle.... seeking out my tribe. Peaceful and powerful.
  •
  • And this new cape I am going to create will not only give me creative purpose, it will also give me hope, inspire creative purpose in you ... my beautiful following of textile, embroidery, Joie de Vivre and creative friends.
  •
  • First job .... get yourselves outside and take some beautiful shots of nature in nature ... details and intricacies that intrigue and excite you...
  •

  • Studying the tiny verdigris and acid green trumpets of lichen or golden illuminescent parasitic mistletoe, spiny and gnarly hawthorn, turkey tail mushrooms, the whizzing cloud structure, the crimson mushrooms and twisted beech .... who cares about anything else at all?

  • I think I’m going to take my sketch book out into nature today... a very rare thing for me .. but it’s time to get out there learning some clever shizzle from the Gurus out there.

I think it’s important to add a sprinkle of the reality of life that was happening at the time. Between visits to Marchmont, I was undergoing chemotherapy treatment, and this is the reality of what I was going through at the time - look at this crop! This was one week before I had it shaved off and was bald.
