In 2010 I was commissioned by LIBERTY to produce a 2 metre quilt for their window display 'Quilty Pleasures' in conjunction with the V&A's festival of quilts and Carnaby Street's 50th Birthday celebrations. I developed a psychedelic genie theme inspired by the art and fashion of the 1960's and 70's, Japanese Graphic Poster design, Liberty print and old magazine adverts for products such as perfume and makeup. I spent an intense 8 weeks working late into the night at my flat in Bristol as my studio wasn't big enough for the project. Wrestling with this 2 meter artwork under my Bernina 1008 was a challenging and physical task. This is the largest single piece I have made thus far. I used layers of appliqued leather, linen, liberty print and painted canvas to produce the massive and seductive 'Liberty Licky Lips Genie' which was then exhibited in the window on Regent street. Within two weeks the genie had sold to a mysterious buyer. She now lives in Malta.
